Building and maintaining a strong, resilient organizational culture is one of the few phenomena that is truly all inclusive. Creating a successful company ethos depends on the positive collision of the right people (at all levels) and the right context. But what does it actually take to create a sustainable, remarkable company culture? The answer is complex, so over the next two weeks, we will look at culture first from a larger organizational perspective… and then again at ground level.

“It’s complicated” … A common response to developing organizational culture.

The lack of a clear, simple response as to how to build and sustain organizational culture is the reason most companies don’t have a great culture. All leaders theoretically want a great culture… and believe, if they repeat it enough, it will magically happen. However, wanting an amazing corporate culture and being willing (and committed) to creating one are two vastly different things.

Why? It’s just not obvious how to create a great organizational culture. After helping many clients through this exact same challenge, we know that there are some critical components in developing and maintaining an exceptional company culture.

A Gift For The New Year

Hi – I hope you are all enjoying the holidays… and looking forward to the new year! Yes, it is that time of year again… we all need to start looking ahead and thinking about what we would like to accomplish next year.  Have you started thinking about next year and what you will accomplish? We all know traditional goal setting doesn’t work… and New Year’s Resolutions? Enough said! Did you know:

  • 70%  of organizational change initiatives FAIL
  • 83% of people have no set goals. While 14% have goals, they do not write them down. The remaining 3% who do write their goals are ten times more successful than the 14% with unwritten goals.
  • 92% of people FAIL to achieve their New Years resolutions, with more than 64% quitting before the end of the first month!

Because I have worked in the corporate world for so long, I have definitely seen more initiative fail and more people fail to meet their objectives than I care to think about. I tend to wonder… If people are not committed to achieving those goals that their paychecks depend on, what is happening in their personal lives? Many years ago, I developed a process to ensure that not only did I meet my goals and objectives (personal and professional alike), I could also help my employees to achieve success in their work… and in their lives.  Today, I use the same process with my clients around the world. My method has been proven over and over again and I would like to introduce you to a way to achieve success in every area of your life in a sustained, dependable way. Self-esteem is essential to your ability engage and maintain meaningful, respectful working relationships – self-esteem holds you accountable to how you interact and work with others and keeps you centered, as a leader. As you engage in building comprehensive self-esteem across your organization, others will notice and will find great encouragement and respect in your commitment to building the foundation of your organization.

Self-esteem just may be the Holy Grail when it comes to leadership development. It is perhaps the only human characteristic that determines how we see ourselves from the inside while directly correlating to how others perceive us on the outside.

While typically not a topic discussed over coffee, self-esteem is a matter of critical importance for you as a leader. Self-esteem holds you accountable to how you interact and work with others… self-esteem keeps you centered…self- esteem is the genesis for how well others respect you. It has an effect on how you think, feel, act – and your business results. Self-esteem determines your ability to be an Authentic Leader.

In short, your self-esteem reflects the degree to which you feel comfortable with yourself as you are, believe that you have inherent value as a unique individual and demonstrate confidence in your ability to successfully achieve your own measure of success.

For better or worse… we are all extensions of the networks we have built – or the lack thereof. Those who are devoted to the intensive cultivation of the vine will prosper and grow, while those who do not, well, you can guess the outcome…
