Destinations: Presentation Outline
Using examples from her own travels throughout the world, as well as relevant examples from sports, history and the business world, Sheri explains that achieving meaningful goals involves four critical steps:
Prepare For The Journey. There are some important preparations that need to be made in order to help your employees reach their final destination. They will need to take several critical steps before actually setting goals that will help them to stay on track and motivated throughout the entire process of setting and attaining their goals…
Plan The Route. Before they drive toward their goals, your people need to know how to get there in the most expedient way. Goal setting is a process that starts with careful consideration of what they want to achieve, and ends with a lot of tenacity and commitment to accomplish what they set out to do. In between there are some very well defined steps that transcend the specifics of each goal. Following these breadcrumbs will allow you r employees to realize their desired destination without taking too many detours…
Plot The Mile-markers. Many people lose sight of what is important and fail to keep a direct line of sight to the why of what they do. By setting aligned mile-markers on managed timelines, your people can ensure they are on course, while at the same time focusing on the overall why of what they do from day to day… and year to year. These mini-goals will keep them motivated and help them to stay on course…
Program The Coordinates. Goal setting is much more than someone simply saying they want something to happen. Unless your employees clearly define exactly what they want and understand why they want it, their odds of success are significantly diminished. In this segment, we’ll discuss some guidelines to help them not only to set effective, achievable goals, but also how to keep the focus on the why…
I conclude with this inspirational challenge:
People with goals succeed because they know where they are going and how they intend to get there. How committed are you to arriving at your desired destination?
